shermac 21- I believe Mikes' enquiry related to taking a car into the U S A , whereas you are talking about importing a mini into Canada- Yes, Lewiston N Y Border Point is the only point in the Niagara frontier that allows export and then only after 72 hour wait time-But remember this is a U S Customs policy only and if you show up at a Canadian Customs Office with your car, they will process it- BIG AL

Also, there are only certain areas that you can import/export cars into Canada. Check this out. Also certain hours of the day. I know that NY has only 1 bridge that allows this and only on weekdays between 10-4. You also need specific paperwork to show them. It's all on the customs website.

Thanks Al! I was thinking of flat towing one back to the US. Is flat towing legal in Canada?

And Mike, slighty O/T based on your question, but, if l deliver a car to the U S Customs, the actual buyer must be there to sign for it-And in theory do the paperwork= The last 3-4 minis that l have exported, where the buyer was not present, l was either turned back or had to go to the expense of activating my Brokers Bond, a cost of around $300.00 This is something new, they claim, it falls under the Fair Trade Practice of 2002 , but l believe it all has to do with tightening up Border crossing points and Homeland Security- When l tried to tell them that the buyer was in Texas or California, they just stare at you and say "whatever" go get your Bond-It usually takes at least 24 hours minimum and in the meantime you sit and wait- BIG AL

You have it cheap going into the U S A- 3% 0n the first $1,000. and 2 1/2% on the balance, so on a $10K car, figure on $255.00- Your State tax is extra of course- BIG AL-

How much does Uncle Sam want it I bring a Canadian registered car into the US? (I promise not to attempt to smuggle in any beaver pelts, maple syrup, or LaBatt Blue!)
